You can also mention the money transfer from a local bank in M’sia to a local bank in UK. And how much is the fee. For example, money transfer from 2 HSBC a/c (M’sia & UK) is free, but I’ve heard that their customer service is bad and their reviews online are terrible.

Oh Natwest got the best student account for the year 2010. Of course, their student a/c is limited to UK permanent residents only but I’ve read that their bank offer insurance coverage, and other incentives for a certain fee per month to international students as a package on top of a basic STEP account. Several other banks (eg, Barclays) also provide this paid service.

Hi Sylvanna, thanks for your suggestions. Would you like to share with us your experience with HSBC & Natwest? I’m a bit busy tis days with my dissertation and was wondering if you could help. I’m sure many forumers are dying for your valuable experience with the banks 🙂

      Cheers!

Oh no, you have misunderstood, I have not had any first-hand experience dealing with the banks and most (if not, all) of my information came from the bank’s website. Everything is there actually. 😛

Anyway, as far as I know, most of the banks will gather during the university’s international orientation day and during that day you can just pick and choose which bank account you want to open. 😛
